GROW – Grounded Roots Open Wings | Children and Teens
GROW is the under-18s division of The Self Care Rebellion, dedicated to offering a supportive and empowering space where children and teens can explore their roots, discover their true potential, and spread their wings. Through a variety of workshops and weekly groups, including Rebel Warriors, we aim to help young people build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of self, preparing them to navigate the challenges of life with courage and clarity.
We provide a range of tools, activities, and experiences designed to foster personal growth. Our focus is on creating an environment where young people feel secure, valued, and part of a community, all while being encouraged to make their own confident choices. Our mission is to give them the skills and support they need to embrace their individuality and take on the world with self-assurance.
We understand that every young person’s journey is unique. That’s why our workshops and groups are designed to be flexible and adaptable, meeting individuals where they are. Whether it’s through creative expression, team-building exercises, or guided self-reflection, we aim to provide a space where young people can explore their emotions, develop their voice, and build the confidence to face life’s challenges. Our goal is to help them feel grounded in who they are while encouraging them to dream big and take bold steps forward.
By promoting creativity, teamwork, self-reflection, and emotional intelligence, we aim to help young people discover their strengths, build meaningful relationships, and learn how to express themselves in a healthy, positive way.

Rebel Warriors

Rebel Warriors has been a mission of the heart. This weekly group began in 2021 with the hope of creating a space where children could embrace their weird and wonderful selves, find belonging, grow, develop confidence in their abilities, make choices, and, most importantly, have a lot of fun along the way. The groups run in four-week blocks, with many members staying long-term. Each week has a unique theme, crafted with my heart, soul, and a wealth of life experience poured into every detail.
During ‘Friendship and Belonging Week’, we built friendship forts, navigated blindfolded trust obstacle courses, and munched on crisps in our forts while solving some of the world’s biggest friendship and belonging dilemmas. For ‘Active Listening Week’, we played hilarious listening games, tackled Lego challenges, and got creative with drawing activities. Our annual programme is packed with diverse themes, all designed to nurture emotional intelligence and essential life skills, but my goal has always been to explore these themes in a fun, confidence-building, and laughter-filled way.
We even weave mindfulness into our sessions through playful games that zoom in on our senses. Take the blindfold challenge, for example: who can draw a skateboarding shark or a dancing dinosaur holding an umbrella, while blindfolded? Or our drinks challenge: could you tell coconut water from carbonated water just by appearance? Would you guess it’s beetroot juice by taste? And could you identify tomato juice by smell alone?
Our groups are guided by four core rules, passed on to me during some fantastic training with EQE. We revisit these rules at the start of every session and often discuss how they can be applied in everyday life. The first rule is to ‘Respect Yourself’. This means you can say no, take a break, look after your physical needs, and set boundaries. This rule alone introduces so many invaluable life skills. Could there be anything more empowering than giving children the confidence to care for themselves?
Each session begins and ends with a circle. Our opening circle gives everyone the chance to share something about their week, how they’re feeling, and most importantly, a positive affirmation. No one is ever forced to speak, but I’ve found that young people thrive when given this space to share with their peers and learn how to communicate and listen effectively. We always ensure every young person leaves with their positive affirmation fulfilled, even if they need a little help along the way.
After many years working in the equine industry, facilitating therapeutic interventions, and offering self-care coaching—both in person and online—I’ve witnessed, with great sadness, the struggles children, teenagers, and even adults often face when it comes to speaking positively about themselves. It’s my mission to change that.
During our closing circle, we share things we’re grateful for. Sometimes these are heartfelt, personal moments; other times, they’re downright hilarious (we’re always grateful for toilets!). But no matter what, these moments leave us feeling thankful for what we have.

I currently run three Rebel Warriors groups on Wednesdays in Porthyrhyd, Carmarthenshire. Two groups meet during the day, and one runs after school. While most attendees are home-educated, the groups are open to everyone. There’s usually a waiting list, but if you’re interested, no matter your location, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Things that you need to know before booking.
- We may use face paints, do creative, messy activities, go barefoot or in socks sometimes, we may get mucky!
- Each session has a theme such as ‘feelings’ or ‘self belief’ and is aimed to suit the age range of children attending. Sometimes conversation surrounding subjects such as stress, friendships, bullying or teasing can lead to more challenging discussions. It is essential that the warriors feel able to speak without restriction. If a discussion ever leads to more challenging topics the chat will not be shut down, but the parents/guardians will be informed enabling the conversation to continue at home if necessary.
- There will be one adult present during the sessions. Details of fully enhanced DBS, insurance and child protection policies are available to view.
